“When I first started exercising, I joined a gym. I was so scared and embarrassed, I let myself get so out of shape. I knew that I would need a trainer to help as I had no idea what I was doing. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made. Paul and I started working together last winter. With his help I’ve lost over thirty pounds and my fitness level has improved tremendously! I have learned so much from Paul about health and fitness. He is always going above and beyond sharing his knowledge and time. Paul has been so supportive in helping me to be successful; he helps me with my diet, and gives me work out plans for the days that we don’t work out together. For me this has been invaluable as I had no idea where to start or what I should be doing.
Paul is a tough trainer. He makes you work hard, but he ever asks for more than you are capable. There have been times that I did not know what I was capable of, but Paul knew and he wouldn’t let me back down. It’s been like having my own personal cheer section! He never lets me cheat myself! I never thought I could run and now I’ve started training for my first marathon. Also, I never thought I would like working out, and now I love it! Working with Paul has changed my life forever.”

“Having never really exercised before (the word exercise was not in my vocabulary) I knew I needed to do something to be fit. I wanted to prevent certain diseases that run in my family, and be stronger and healthier. I decided to try an introductory session with Paul VS. I knew that since I was not an athlete at all I needed all the help I could get. All the equipment in gyms were very intimidating to me. I signed up with Paul as my Personal Trainer. Paul is not only an expert in fitness, but in the nutritional aspect as well. With Paul’s expertise, I have reached the weight that I should be, and I have become stronger and more fit than I ever was before. I would not be anywhere near this fitness level had it not been for the training I received from Paul. He has been very patient with me, and that’s what I needed. He does make me work hard, but that’s what was looking for! You can reach the goals that you would like to achieve with your Personal Trainer, Paul VS.”

“If you want results, then I highly recommend Paul Van Slambrouck. I started training with Paul after a health assessment at work. I was out of shape, to say the least. As a computer guy, I got very little exercise and had an unhealthy diet. I had never worked out before, let alone knew what exercise to do or how to properly do them. The gym was intimidating to me and I was afraid to ask questions. However, Paul made a huge difference. He was able to gage my health level and push me outside of my comfort zone to achieve amazing results, without asking for me to do something I couldn’t. The amazing results I have seen would not have happened if it weren’t for training with him!
Since I starting training, in 5 months I have lost almost 24lbs of fat, and gained about 8 pounds of pure muscle! I went from 199lbs to 182lbs, and saw a decrease in my body fat composition from 29.4% to 19%. All of this is without a huge time commitment or major changes to my diet. He doesn’t make you count calories, but suggests small modifications to your diet. That really helped me build new habits. The exercises change often, so it’s not the same thing every week. I can tell that he’s very knowledgeable about health and fitness and truly cares about seeing my health improve. I never thought I’d enjoy working out, but I now feel good after every one of our sessions. On top of that, I look much better, feel a lot more athletic, and my self confidence has improved greatly compared to when I started with Paul.”

“I have known about Paul, and the results he produces for a long time. He had a great track record of helping people get and stay healthy. I did not know, however, why it was it was so important to work with Paul, or how he was able to get people so fit and healthy so effectively. You see, I am a very busy executive. My “day at work” is not like most people’s routine. I would be in Arizona for a week, then in Texas the next. I don’t know what week I will be able to stay home, or for how long. I also knew that I could not maintain this lifestyle. It was not healthy. I gained a lot of weight, and was unable to control it despite my best efforts.
I did what I thought was best. I tried to do it by myself. I went jogging five to six days a week, wherever I could. The result, I gained more weight, and got more ill. I went to the hospital for the infections. The doctor told me that this infection was related directly to my weight. If I were a healthy person, I would not have contracted this infection. He also told me If I continued in this trend, I would be taking a lot of pills for high cholesterol. The scariest thing was, the doctor told me I was pre-diabetic. If I didn’t shape up I would have full onset diabetes in 6 months. It was not next year, or 10 years later, it was the next 6 months. He set me up with a follow up for three months later. If things didn’t change I would be on medication for the rest of my life. For me, a man in his mid thirties, that was unacceptable. That was a wakeup call for me. Despite my super busy schedule, I came clean with Paul. I went to him for my problems. I told him about my schedule and my health problems. He helped me create a plan to succeed despite my hectic work schedule & family life.
After a 3 month training program with Paul, I went back to visit doctor. He could not believe what happened. I was out of danger zone for diabetes, and my cholesterol is in normal range! I had my health back in as little as 3 months, despite my work & life problems. Six months from now the doctor wants to see me again. I’m looking forward to that, because I am sure I will surprise my doctor. Last but not least, I saw my earnings increase also. Now that I am healthier I have more stamina and focus. Taking on challenges in business, and in life, are a snap now. I can’t thank Paul enough.”

RYAN BEFORE
RYAN AFTER ONLY 12 WEEKS
"I have made more progress toward my goals in three months of working with Paul than I ever did in a year on my own. I’ve gained 1.5" on my chest and 1" on my arms, while losing 3.5% body fat and a whole inch off my waist. I never thought this type of growth was possible in such a short amount of time. I am in the best shape of my life, and have more strength, energy, and stamina than I did in my 20s.
Paul is passionate about his work and does a great job inspiring that passion in others. I learned to redefine what I thought my limits were, and Paul would not let me quit until I reached them. The results were far better than I had hoped for, and I can’t recommend him highly enough."

"Paul VS is a true professional. He is extremely knowledgeable not only
about cardio and strength training, but also nutrition, weight loss,
stretching exercises, and advice on how to avoid and/or treat injuries as
well. Words cannot adequately address all the positive results that have
come from my sessions with Paul. One of the aspects of Paul’s training that
really appealed to me was the option to come to my home and teach me the
best ways to use the equipment I already had. This was an obvious plus as I
could learn how to use my own fitness equipment more effectively, without
having to go to a gym or pay a gym membership. Besides being very
convenient, it also left me with no excuse not to exercise! Another aspect
of Paul’s training that has been extraordinarily helpful is the nutrition
component. By going over my meals with me every week, he taught me how to
plan my meals in a way that would kick start my metabolism so that I could
meet my fitness and weight loss goals. The variety of different workouts
that Paul provides keeps the sessions from getting boring, as well as
demonstrating how many different ways there are to get in shape. In
addition, it also clearly showed how much time he put into planning each
session to meet my individual fitness needs. However, Paul’s workouts are
also very challenging, showing me that I can do much more than I thought
possible. This taught me that I should be pushing myself much harder during
my own workout sessions. He is always encouraging and truly cares about
your progress and overall fitness. The tools that Paul teaches are not only
life changing, but also the kind that can be adhered to for a lifetime. For
anyone looking for a personal trainer that has the skills to truly make a
difference in your fitness level as well as the ability to tailor a program
to your individual needs, I highly recommend Paul VS.”

Like many brides before me, I worked hard to look good on my wedding day. Unfortunately, also like many brides before me, I let it all fall apart after the wedding. In the span of two years I’d gained 29 pounds and 3 pant sizes! I had the usual excuses: lack of time, knowledge, energy, etc. And even though I tried several times to reverse my rapidly deteriorating physique, nothing seemed to work- which just frustrated me to the point of failure with each attempt. Finally, a friend at the gym referred me to Paul- and I owe her big time!
The first assessment was a huge wake-up call. I’d known about the weight gain, but didn’t realize how unhealthy I really was. I went into the training with the hopes of losing all the weight I had gained (and maybe even a little more) but suddenly it was no longer about that. Although losing the weight was definitely a goal of mine, my focus quickly shifted to getting healthy. Throughout the months that followed, Paul taught me how to do just that. I met with him 3 times a week for some seriously intense strength workouts. I was responsible for completing the cardio workouts he recommended on my own time. Every workout was a challenge; he pushed me to accomplish things I never dreamed I could. But with each accomplishment, I would gain a little more confidence- both in my abilities and in my appearance. Plus, the workouts were a great motivator to keep up the healthy eating habits Paul had taught me. I would keep a food journal and, on a weekly basis, he would critique my choices. In doing this, I learned how to eat right to maintain optimal body health, and a high metabolism. The greatest thing about the “diet” plan is that it’s not a diet at all. It’s a realistic way to eat healthy for the rest of my life. And it’s an easy thing to do!
With Paul’s guidance in teaching me how to eat healthy and exercise effectively, I was able to get some fantastic results. I dropped 23 pounds and 3 pant-sizes. My lean body mass increased from a mere 64.7% to 80.4%. I also increased my physical endurance, my athletic performance, and my confidence! But the best part of all is that Paul has successfully changed my lifestyle so that I will not have to worry about ever falling into the “post-wedding trap” again (or post-baby, post-holiday, post-vacation, etc…)
I couldn’t have gotten the results I did without Paul’s help. His expertise in both diet and exercise was critical to my success, just as much as the support and encouragement he offered. I can’t thank him enough for the positive changes he’s made in my life. He is awesome at what he does and I’d highly recommend his services to anyone!

“I can’t remember a darker or more terrifying time in my life then when I struggled with an eating disorder (please note the past tense feel of that sentence… no worried emails or phone calls please) and when the process of my divorce commenced it came back with a serious vengeance … it was like the year of therapy I went through never happened. I started to see signs of those old and nasty habits. I started to see a distorted reflection. I started to see everything that was wrong with me. I stopped eating. The hunger pangs in a strange way were comforting – they distracted me from the real hurt and pain that I was facing and I soon found myself at the top of a very slippery slope. I knew that if I continued to humor these thoughts and behaviors that a relapse was inevitable and I was not about to subject myself again to that kind of torture.
I decided that finding a personal trainer was a good idea. I searched around and finally settled on one that seemed comfortable. As part of my initial consultation I was to receive a free fitness assessment and a complimentary training session… a "try before you buy" sort of thing.
That trainer’s name is Paul Van Slambrouck and I owe so much of where I am now because of him. …honestly he helped keep me from losing my mind.
The first time I met him in person was on the morning of my fitness assessment. He was super warm and friendly … which looking back now, his friendly smile almost feels like false advertising because he is crazy tough. I mean really crazy tough… I walked into it completely unsuspecting to any potential threats to my comfort zone. I was under the impression that a fitness assessment was like one of those gym tests in middle school (you know like running around the track a couple of times and climbing a rope etc.) Instead I was lead into a small room with a computer and a scale. He asked a variety of questions about my lifestyle and when he asked me what I ate on any given day, I felt defensive. I started to second guess my decision to be there. What was I supposed to say, "I feel incredibly fat and have decided that food is my arch nemesis." ????
I think the defensiveness surfaced because a large part of me didn’t want help and was attracted to that old way of life- which is a weird way of saying that because ‘living’ with an eating disorder is no way to live at all. So you can imagine my horror when he asked me to get on the scale and when he measured my body fat percentage. I heavily considered bolting out of the door and never coming back but I decided to stay because a larger part of me knew that I needed… wanted… his help. I was however not prepared to deal with all of the sudden emotions that resurfaced and spent the rest of our appointment trying to keep myself from coming completely unsoldered.
My first training session with him didn’t go very well either. I hadn’t eaten anything since lunchtime the day before and only 5 or 10 minutes in I felt severely nauseous. I couldn’t stand upright. I couldn’t bring myself to do the exercises that he was asking me to do. I felt weak. I felt defeated. I felt like a failure…. or in other words I felt like total crap- rock bottom.
When he sat down with me after, we talked about the benefits that training would offer me and I was sold. Up until a few days ago I trained with Paul three times a week and that was one of the best strategic moves I have made … ever. I wonder and have been meaning to ask him what it was like to see me from the sidelines because I started to train with Paul right after I moved out of my house up until just a few days ago. If anyone saw the progression of my recent "learning experience", it would have been him.
It is a major understatement to say that my life during that time was high stress and having tough workouts helped me cope. You know it’s bad when you cry yourself to sleep but it is even worse when you consistently wake up in the morning in tears. I can’t tell you how many times I drove to the gym crying, upset, overwhelmed, and ready to just throw in the towel. Then when I would get to the parking lot, I would wipe away my tears and walk through those gym doors pretending that I was tough and unbreakable… all the while feeling totally shattered and fragile inside and completely afraid that I would fail myself.
I remember asking him why he chose to be a personal trainer and his response was that he wanted to help people. And help people he does. I would almost always leave the gym feeling strong and confident. Capable. Which is a stark difference to when I would arrive. More than that I could talk to him and trust him… he always seemed to know exactly what to say.
Paul was a rock for me… a stabling and grounding force amidst the chaos of my life. He showed me that I have way more strength than I ever dared to believe. He helped me develop a more healthy relationship with food and to have a better body image. He taught me to have confidence and to not quit because of difficulty. He taught me to deliberately trust in myself and my ability to succeed. He inspired me to live with tenacity.
…And when I couldn’t find that strength in me, when I let myself quit, he was there.
He was always there to pick me back up both figuratively and literally (there were many times that I would lay down on the gym floor or crouch up in the fetal position… and I am not exaggerating.) Paul really witnessed me at my worst, but then again he brought out the best in me too. I am so grateful to him. I could not have survived without him and without his torturous workouts. I will miss training with Paul like crazy because who else is going to pick me back up from my fetal position when the going gets tough??
But I guess maybe it is time for me to start doing that on my own. I certainly have the tools. Now it is up to me to put in the effort.
I am also grateful for my family who offered to pay for my last semester of school. Because of their generosity I was able to take the money I had saved up for tuition and use it to fund this endeavor… it truly was an essential component to surviving last year and getting me to where I am today.
If you are in the Ann Arbor/Ypsi area and are interested in working with a trainer, I highly recommend Paul Van Slambrouk. He is the absolute best and worth every penny.”
